 From Goodreads

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

Sonny's Thoughts

Tris lives in the world that is segregated into five separate factions: Candor, the honest; Abnegation, the selfless; Dauntless, the brave; Amity, the peaceful; and Erudite, the intelligent.

Tris lives in Abnegation, but has never felt she was selfless enough to continue onto a happy life. She finally finds somewhere she feels she belongs.

In her new faction, Tris finds herself becoming stronger and more confident in herself. She also makes friends for the first time in her life. She also starts to feel unfamiliar emotions toward a handsome young man.

Soon, Tris discovers her perfect society isn’t so perfect after all. Tris is fighting for the life of herself, her family and friends, and ultimately love.

I fell into the World of Divergent and didn’t come out of the pages for even days after I had finished reading its spectacular words. The characters of Divergent are loveable, even the ones that act less than admirable.

The shift in Tris’s mind when she moves to her new faction is intriguing. It seems she has always had a mindset that didn’t quite belong in Abnegation. She seemed to become a girl that was always destined for greatness. All she needed was a small nudge in the right direction.

The love that blossoms between Tris and Four is almost an addiction for me. Their final bond over their fears is amazing to read. The bond is seemingly unbreakable, and beautiful.

I have found Veronica Roth’s writing style has the perfect combination of emotion and detail to keep you wanting more.

Divergent is a beautiful and absorbing sneak peek into the future. I devoured every word of this book with my heart bursting with emotion.

 My new lover!

"It will be difficult to break the habits of Abnegation instilled in me, like tugging a single thread from a complex work of embroidery. But I will find new habits, new thoughts, new rules. I will become something else."

Pg. 87

This was my flip and point quote. And I have to say, I think a found a good one. I have heard so many great things about this book, and I am so excited to start it!
