Goodreads Synopsis

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...

My Thoughts

I feel like my words can’t even begin to describe how amazing this book is. It reached into my chest, ripped out my heart, squished it flat, and inflated it right back up at too quick of a pace. It absolutely dripped with emotion. This is one of the first YA books with mythology that I have read. And, I have to say, after reading Everneath, I will definitely be seeking them out more often.

When I first began Everneath, I was a little bit confused. The book is written in terms of the present and a type of “back flashes”. I say “flash backs” like this because they were actually part of the story. There was no glossed over eyes, no day dreaming about the past (which can get a little obnoxious), but almost a new chapter being written from the past. Like I said, I was confused at first. I thought that maybe I missed something and was a little worried. But, it soon began making sense and I ended up loving Brodi Ashton’s writing style. I really enjoy books that feed you information little by little. It tends to be a little overwhelming to me when too much information is thrown at me all at the same time. In the way Everneath is written, there are parts of the story that you are unsure about and how they happened. But, Brodi gives you the “flash backs” to tell the story in an incredible way.

Let’s talk about some of the characters in this book. I am absolutely in LOVE with these characters. Nikki herself is an interesting MC. After she came back from the Feed (where the Everliving and the forfeit go for a century), she was not able to feel any of her own emotions. She was an empty shell. But, for an empty shell, she did still have a lot of turmoil. And she is still absolutely loveable and not too overly dramatic about the situation she is in.

Then there is the love triangle between Nikki, Jack, and Cole. I really love emotions of love triangles, and this one mostly lived up to my standards. Nikki doesn’t push herself too much at either guy. And Jack is gentle and adorable. Speaking of Jack, I am pretty much head over heels for this amazing guy! He is gorgeous, respectful, and an amazingly considerate person. He is also completely in love with Nikki, though it is a while before he makes it known, and almost too late. I drool over this boy. Definitely made it onto my hot boys of YA list! But then there is Cole. Oh, Cole. I almost feel bad for him. Almost. I would feel worse if he wasn’t trying to steal Nikki. But, he is also a drooltastic, interesting character.

In the end, I found my cheeks wet with tears of remorse and disbelief in the ending. I fell completely into this book, fell hard for the characters and the writing style, and then fell back out of the book with a new found love. Everneath is an incredible romance that transcends all evils.

Favorite Character: Jack- I want me a real life Jack

Least Favorite: Cole- we have a love hate relationship

Quotes: pg.206 “And when I opened my mouth to scream, several arms came out of the floor, covering my mouth, and dragged me the rest of the way under.
The ability to dream again is highly overrated.”

Pg.300 “’It’s always been you, Becks. Nothing will change that, no matter how much time has pasted.’”

Pg.360 “’Stay with me Becks. Dream of me. I am ever your.’”
