My Thoughts

The first chapter or so of Pandemonium was difficult for me to get through. It seemed to go round and round and said a lot of the same things. I am sure it was meant to seem a tad chaotic because it is written in the thoughts and emotions of Lena as she is was wounded and scared. I get that. But it was so hard to get through!

With that said, I absolutely LOVED this book!!! Five stars until the very end!

Delirium was one of my first dystopian reads, and reading Pandemonium was at the absolute top of my list of reads for 2012. I totally gobbled the words of this book at such at fast rate that it made my head spin. It was very much unexpected the way Pandemonium turned to be. I thought maybe it would be about Lena learning to live in the Wilds. Or maybe finding her mom. I am not totally sure what I did expect, but it turned out to be a fantastic read.

Lena herself grew in leaps and bounds and was almost like a whole new character. She was determined and seemed to decide that she will no longer let her old life weigh her down anymore. The journey of her letting go of Alex was heartbreaking to read. Not to mention heartbreaking for me! Hello?! It took me almost the entire book to get over the boy with the autumn leave hair. I totally cried at the end of Delirium and refused to let go of Alex! It was definitely a huge jump for Lena (not to mention this girl!).

The new characters introduced in this book were very dimensional, rounded, and well written; even the ones with the small parts.

Julian. Oh. Julian. How you captivate me so… Lena, I mean how you captivate Lena so! Julian was an adorable character. He was innocent, good looking, attentive, and a tab bit rebellious. I like rebellious. His type of rebellion started out in a small and quiet way, and slowly grew into something like love. Yes, I said that dirty word: LOVE! Curiosity literally got the best of this boy.

When Lena and Julian spent their days as captives together, you could see their relationship blossom right before your eyes. It was a confused, but kind and adorable relationship. I found myself just waiting for them to figure out that they should be together, and wondering “Why are they just not together yet?!”

In the end, we, the readers, are totally thrown for a loop. I mean jaw dropping, spine tingling, OMG sort of ending. An absolute cliff hanger that fans of Delirium will be dying to learn more about.

Pandemonium was sweet and adventurous with plenty of delirium nervousa to keep the reader swooning. An absolutely brilliant and beautiful read.

Favorite Character: Julian

Least Favorite: Raven; although she did redeem herself somewhat by the end of the book.

My Thoughts 

I feel like my words can’t even begin to describe how amazing this book is. It reached into my chest, ripped out my heart, squished it flat, and inflated it right back up at too quick of a pace. It absolutely dripped with emotion. This is one of the first YA books with mythology that I have read. And, I have to say, after reading Everneath, I will definitely be seeking them out more often.

My Thoughts 

Creeptastic. Humorous. Unraveling Isobel was thrilling and well-paced. And the characters Isobel and Nathaniel were real and likeable.

I am having a hard time trying to find the right words to say about this book. I found it gripping, funny, tearful, snarky, frustrating; pretty much so many emotions in one book that is hard to pinpoint exactly how I feel.

My Thoughts

I have to start out by saying I had my doubts about this book. And, about 100 pages into the book, I definitely thought about putting it down and walking away. I am so happy that I continued reading; I love this book and cannot wait for the second, Ashen Winter.

My Thoughts

I wanted to love this book, I really did. I was a little confused most of the book. I had pretty high hopes for this book. I have been pining for it since the say I saw the first countdown, and jumped for joy when my husband bought it for me. And now I am just… sad that I do not have a spectacular review to share.

Casey is a normal 16 year old girl. Oh, except for the fact that she occasionally travels back in time to the 1800’s. No big deal; until she brings her biggest crush Nate along for the ride. Multiple times.

My Review

Dani is an aspiring dancer who attends an all arts boarding school. And the school is hosting Teen Celebrity Dance Off tv show. Dani makes the cut and is also paired with a gorgeous rising actor. Sparks begin to fly between the two. She feels like she has everything.

But things begin to go wrong. People are getting hurt, things are going missing, huge threats; it seems someone is adamant on stopping the show from going on. Dani and her friends become their own little detective squad to solve the new mystery.

My Thoughts

Codename: Dancer was a quick and adorable read. I did enjoy a light read for one. The small romance between Dani and Nick was cute at first, but I am glad it didn’t work. I am hoping that she will eventually get together with Craig. Now that could be a great romance.

The premise of the book was cute. A detective ballet dancer. Just think of the accessories.

I think the characters could have had a little bit more dimension to them. Most of the story revolved  around the dancing and detection work. Normally this would not be a problem, but it was such a fast read that there seemed to not be enough time to build up deeper personalities and sense the relationships between the characters.  It would have also been fun to see a little more life outside of the dancing and detective business. Just to see high schoolers being teens.

In the end, I was happy that I was able to read this book. It was fun, lighthearted, and has a sweet (yet bad) romance to nip my romance craving. I am interested in seeing how the next Dani Spevak Mystery could pan out.

My Thoughts

I drooled and swooned over this book. The synopsis sounded fantastic, and I have a hard time resisting anything with an amazing romance. And then I began to read the book. The writing was beautiful and descriptive and held your eyes and your mind glued to the pages. Melissa wrote the book from the view point of both Tristan and Savannah. I love when authors write two main characters in books; the story is more dimensional and has more depth. Mash that and her beautiful writing style and you will just drool over the pages like I did.

Let’s talk about some of the characters. Savannah is giving, caring, and helpful. She is also extremely indecisive in determining, well, just about everything in her life. At times it is entertaining to see Sav talking herself into and out of doing something that would make herself happy or otherwise. I really do enjoy her character. She seems like the type of person you would want in your life. In the beginning, she kept her emotions right on the brink of surfacing; you could feel them bubbling just out of reach.

Tristan is a green eyed, golden haired god in my mind. At first he seems like an arrogant jerk, which I am sure is how we are supposed to perceive him. But, he quickly won me over. He is sweet and trustworthy. He is also extremely protective and loving to Sav.

But Tristan and Sav together? They smolder. You definitely feel the love and longing between the two. The writing in the times that the two spend together is gorgeous and at times visually creative. Things become increasingly difficult after they find that the two’s families are mortal enemies.

Tristan is a descendant from The Clan, a powerful and magical family. The magic used in the book is interesting. It is directly connected to emotion and it is fun to read.

Savannah’s mom is a descendant and her dad is a vampire. She is a cross-breed in a sense and is slowly coming into her vampire blood.

Together, they go down a road that is dangerous for the bother of them; a road of love that is constantly hidden and tormented by the feuding families. A love like Sav’s parents once had.

The story line is intriguing. As I do normally say, the back story for the feuding families or the love story between Sav’s parents could make for an interesting read. The little bit of information given in the book helped the story line along, but I think that there could have been a little more intertwined. With that said, I still think the book was fantastic.  

I fell completely into the pages of Crave and devoured every world with eager enthusiasm. A truly marvelous read.

My Review

Terra lives in a colony at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. The World went into WWIII and nuked itself. But not before some of the world’s greatest minds came together to build a perfect society at the bottom of the ocean.

Tessa feels confined, claustrophobic, like a fish stuck in an aquarium. She yearns to be in the fresh air with the grass, soil, freedom. Her father tells her that it is a world full of anarchy, murder, and hard survival. Terra doesn’t care. She wants her freedom, no matter the cost.

She finally gets her chance of freedom and goes to The Burn, the surface. After saving a boy’s life, Terra quickly falls into a group of survivors that ultimately become like family. From there, life turns into a constant battle for survival and the safety of their small family.

Terra is forced to ask herself if this new life is worth the effort and difficulties, or if the Colony where every choice is made for her is a better life.

My Thoughts

I cannot even begin to describe how much I love this book! I mean just true love. YA dystopian novels are quickly becoming my favorite, so this one went right to the top when I read it. The whole concept of the Colony at the bottom of the ocean is intriguing to me. I wonder from a logical point of view how something like this could be possible, the steps that need to be taken, and the freedoms given up. And then there is the tree-hugging, fresh air loving part of me that gets freaked out. I mean totally freaked out. I definitely know how Terra feels; like she is an animal in a cage with the weight of the world repressing her lungs and crushing her soul. Phew. That would be absolutely horrible.

In a way, the Colony is almost perfect in their jobs, prescribed foods, things like that. Perfect for the body, but not for the soul. Everything is streamlined, practical, and useful. I would feel so completely repressed the same as Terra.

The author Annie writes a section in the beginning of the book where Terra experiences warmth, plants, and soil with all of her senses for the first time ever. Beautiful. Gorgeous. Brilliant. Writing at its best and most raw. I love writing that is raw and really dig into the details of something small and seem but a moment in our lives. But these are the moments that make life what it is. And that moment with the earth is something that really pushed Terra to adventure her dream of living on The Burn.

It is also interesting to me that Terra is unable to speak. There is an incident with a woman helping Terra to get to The Burn. She made her pay a price to gain entry to the surface: her tongue. She can no longer speak in this world of ultimate survival.

A small romance does brew between Terra and a boy named David; but very small. Mary, David’s old flame is jealous and a sort of rivalry breaks out between Terra and Mary. No brawl breaks loose, but there is a definite tension between them. She also makes a great friend out of a boy named Jack.

Terra also learns some basic skills to keep herself alive on The Burn. I really would have loved to see her doing more hard labor, like actually doing some of the hunting and maybe just a little more work. But, it is pretty perfect the way it is, and if there is another book, I could definitely see Annie adding and little more hardship to her travels.

In the end, Terra decides that she has to move on from her little family and learn to survive on her own without relying on the help of others.  At first I was a little surprised and little sad that she left because I sincerely began to like a lot of the characters, especially Nell and Red. But, I am very glad because she is moving to her next adventure, which might mean a series is brewing. Yes!

And Jack followed her. How cute is that? I really do hope that some sort of romance begins between those two. I know, I’m a romance junkie.

The Burn is the story of a girl silently finding her way in an unrelenting and cruel world. Even in the darkest days, friendships can be made and kept, and survival can be a way for a new life.

Favorite Character: Nell and Red; they come as one character for me :D Also Jack.

Least Favorite: Mary; only kind of.

Favorite Quote: "All the countries that said they never had or had already powered down their nuclear weapons let loose in one fell swoop and boom! There goes the neighborhood."

 Fantastic!

My Review

Charlie Woodchuck is a freshman in the 1980’s, a minor niner. She is trying hard to find herself in the world of knee warmers. Charlie signs herself up for an all-boys woodworking class and becomes the face of a new movement in the students and the teachers. On top of that, she learns in her new genetics class that her parents might not be her own.

Down a road of confusion, courage, rebellion and new knowledge, Charlie finally begins to understand the choices and events surrounding her life. She also takes on one heck of a fight; changing the schools point of view on the same gender classes.

Charlie is refreshing and intelligent. She has guts, quiet confidence, and courage to stand up to what she believes in.

My Thoughts

This story is so cute. Charlie poses as a boy (on paper) to get into a woodworking class. But, the class is only for boys, and because of her name, she gets into the class. She finds that she is actually pretty good at woodworking and enjoys it, but doesn’t so much enjoy the teacher and the boys in the class. I was very proud of her though when she does show the boys, the teacher, and the school board what she is made of.

There is also another part of the book that is very interesting to me; a part that really fueled a lot of Charlie’s rebellion. She finds that her parents might not actually be her real parents. She goes down an entertaining road to find the truth. When she does, she starts to see every brown haired, brown eyed woman as her mother. She is seeing mother’s everywhere! It is cute the confusion that she has, but a little heartbreaking to know how she is feeling and the emotions she is going through. But it turns out to be okay in the end and her parents are still her parents.

Charlie also has a friend named Stacy that makes the story a little more interesting. In short, I didn’t like her for most of the story. But, I think she is pretty necessary to it. She is rude and doesn’t seem to care for Charlie’s feelings. Eventually, you learn about the troubles in her own life and the turmoil she is going through and you begin to understand her. I don’t think it is okay for a person to treat a friend like dirt, but it was a reminder to maybe “walk a mile in another’s shoes”.

Along with Charlie finding out her mother is not biological, she finds that she may have a relative that has lived close by for years and she has never known. She finds that Kendra, the class know-it-all, is her cousin. I don’t believe she ever tells Kendra that they are cousins, but they do become very close friends.

By the end, Charlie is on a full out mission to show the school board that they should have more blended class. All the children should have a chance to learn the same subjects as one another. There is a performance at the end by the girls, a boy, and Charlie that shows the different genders can take on one another’s roles and succeed well. Charlie also gets a chance to show off her woodworking skills.

Charlie Woodchuck is an adorable girl with the voice of a woman and the name of a boy. She is thoughtful, inspiring, and vocal in her beliefs. I hope that more young people will strive to be a little more like Charlie.

Favorite character: Charlie!

Least favorite: Stacy and Charlie’s Mom

My Review

                Au Revoir, Crazy Chick is an enthralling book with adventure, violence, and romance; the perfect combination of action and love.

My Thoughts

I absolutely could not put this book down! I am a major fan of action with some kick ass romance. Although I do wish there was a tad bit more romance to quench my thirst, it was really a fantastic combination.

                Perry seemed like such a quiet character in the beginning. He always kept his head down, did what her was told, and never talked back. Throughout the book, you could see and feel his character grow as the adventure became more epic. I also liked that he didn’t just give into Gobi after he had seen all of the violence that she was capable of. It really annoys me when characters just roll over and say, “Well, okay. I guess we are just going to kill people now.” What is that?! Who just says, okay, whatever? Perry was very strong in what he believed in and stayed that way until the end. He also grew a “set” and begins saying what he really feels.

Gobi. What can I say about Gobi? At the beginning, she was a mouse of a girl from Lithuania posing as an exchange student. At prom though, you really begin to see the real girl behind the glasses. She is really a kick-ass assassin with her own personal vendetta and a hard exterior. The story behind Gobi’s personal tragedies has a possibility to be very rich and interesting. There wasn’t much about it in this book, but hopefully in the future there will be some prequel documenting her journey, because I would so get my hands on that book. I also loved seeing Gobi soften up and start to fall for Perry.

Perry and Gobi go down this crazy road of hits with Perry’s lawyer dad’s Jaguar who is a complete a-hole. I personally took pleasure in every hit and window smashing that car took. It made me slightly happy.

After these two go through most of these hits, which at times are gory and violent, sexy Gobi dragging resistant Perry with her, the whole story come about that it was no accident that Gobi chose Perry’s family as her cover. The whole story hits close to home for Perry.

                In the end, Gobi has to leave and it makes me pretty sad. But, who murders that many people and gets away with it? There is a pretty good cliff hanger though that I am anxious in see where it goes. The book did go pretty fast, and I think if maybe the author but Gobi’s point of view in the book with maybe flashbacks and maybe drug the hits out a little more, it could have been a whole series. And I would have loved it! It would have been very interesting to see the road Gobi took, the skills she learned, and the people she had to talk to and find the people that she was looking for.  But that is just my opinion.

This book has fantastic adventure, some romance, and great action packed scenes. I really loved it and am anxiously waiting to see if there will be a second.
