Sonny Reviews Spellbound

 Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz

Addicted!

Do you believe in magic? Or soul mates? Or even wearing Louboutin heels? Well, Emma sure does not.
After an accident with Emma’s stepfather left her slowly healing heart scared yet again, and her physical self as well, she finally agrees to her aunt’s wishes to move into her apartment in New York. Along with this move come her cousin Ashley, whom she becomes close to, and a prestige education at Vincent Academy.
Emma already feels like an outcast with her chipped nail polish, scuffed Mary Janes and straight hair. So, when she sees the girls of Vince A in their red soled shoes and bouncy blond hair, she feels even more of a dud. She also immediately gains a new blond headed bimbo enemy in said red Louboutins.
Enter Brendan; black messy hair, bright green eyes and a killer body. Emma is immediately pulled towards him. She wants to, has to, know him.
Soon, Emma and Brendan’s lives intertwine with one another, along with some steamy kisses and intertwined legs, into a swoon worthy romance.
Emma, once wanting to just melt into the walls, finds her and Brendan’s romance front and center in Vince A; they are constantly scrutinized by these mascara covered eyes of the school. Along the ride, they have gained an enemy that will go to any length to end them.
But, there is more to this romance than meets the eye. Could it be that their souls are meant to find one another? Will their love be the one that saves their lives, or the one to rip it apart? Can their love last from the results of being spellbound?

My Thoughts:
How can I stress enough how absolutely enticing and magical this book is for the romance seeker?
Emma and Brendan are electric together. Cara’s writing is humorous and romantic in all the same breath. The communication between the two of them is intoxicating in a way that is difficult to find in a world filled with fantasy romance. But Spellbound stands almost alone with tongue wagging romance.
I absolutely adore the fact that Emma is not your everyday bimbo, just another girl with a painted face. She has characters. She has life experience. And she is so snarky. I love it!
Brendan. Oh Brendan. I have a new fantasy crush. Those large, dark fringed green eyes. The dark messy hair. Mmm. Emma is a lucky girl for having the chance to run her fingers through his silky, black hair. (Fantasy terms, of course.)
Spellbound is a spectacular debut of the magic of love, and how a soul can transcend time to find the one that is truly its match. This read took my breath away in many hot and romantic ways.

 Couldn't put it down!

Teaser Tuesday (10)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz

"I heard another sound popping behind me. It started off low- guttural. I spun around. The streetlight in front of me was smoking, black plumes steaming out as if it were on fire. I heard a sharp sizzling, crackling sound and instinctively crouched down, covering my head with my hands. I screamed as the frosted glass light exploded, a flash of flames shooting glass and filaments into a halo on the ground below. The burning embers extinguished as they fell on the wet leaves, sending off a sinister, snakelike hiss as the heat died out."
pg. 91

I just couldn't help myself; two sentences was just not enough! I love this entire paragraph. This was just another point and pick Teaser, so I hope it does the book some justice.
But, in just this one paragraph, I can tell that I already like the writing style.

Plus!
P.S.: Just a lil update before I post. I did start this book... and love it so far!
That is all.

Tease me!!

In My Mailbox (7)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme created by Kristi at The Story Siren that gives readers the chance to share the books they bought/received/swapped/rented over the past week.
I found this place called NetGalley. I found that it is pretty popular in the blogging world. Duh! I don't have a Nook (yet!), but I have downloaded some books for review. Yay! So excited!

Many visitors to Yellowstone National Park don't realizethat the boiling hot springs and spraying geysers are caused by an underlyingsupervolcano, so large that the caldera can only be seen by plane or satellite. And by some scientific measurements, it could be overdue for an eruption.
For Alex, being alone for the weekend meansfreedom from his parents and the chance to play computer games and hang outwith his friends without hassle from his mother. Then Yellowstone erupts, plunging his hometown into a nightmare of darkness, ash, and violence. Alexbegins a harrowing trek, searching for his family and finding help in Darla, his travel partner. Together they must find the strength and skills to surviveand outlast an epic disaster.

I am one of those girls that every time a preview for a disater movie come onto the tv, I stop everything I am doing to watch it. Mouth open, wide-eyed, drool worthy watching! I am fascinated with future disasters. Not exactly sure why. So, it is only fitting that I would be totally intrigued by a book with a natural disaster. Also one that sounds like would have a romance brewing.

The first boy disappeared on the day of his birth, on a night when the pale yellow moon of the nighttime sky turned red and bathed the heavens in the ghastly color of blood, on the same night the Kingdom of Cokyri abruptly ceased its merciless attack.
Across the land of Hytanica, under the shadow of the crimson moon, infant boys continued to vanish. Not until the blood had faded from the sky did the disappearances stop and the bodies of the murdered infants were found outside the gates of the city, a final word from the greatest enemy Hytanica had ever known. For the next sixteen years, peace reigned, but one mystery remained unsolved. The Cokyrians had abducted forty-nine newborns, but returned only forty-eight bodies.
Now, as seventeen-year-old Princess Alera of Hytanica is besieged from all sides by suitors vying for the Throne, a teenage Cokyrian boy, Narian, is encountered within the walls of her Kingdom, a boy who will show Alera a world where women serve a purpose and not just a husband. As Narian helps Alera find her voice, she struggles against an arranged marriage that will shatter the life she has scarcely begun to live. And when Narian's shocking past is uncovered, and war with Cokyri looms once more, he must fight to defy a fate ordained at his birth.

Soo. Excited. For Legacy! I don't often read period book. I get too distracted easily from them. But Legacy sounds amazing.

What's a girl to do when meeting The One means she's cursed to die a horrible death?Life hasn't been easy on sixteen-year-old Emma Conner, so a new start in New York may be just the change she needs. But the posh Upper East Side prep school she has to attend? Not so much. Friendly faces are few and far between, except for one that she's irresistibly drawn to—Brendan Salinger, the guy with the rock-star good looks and the richest kid in school, who might just be her very own white knight.
But even when Brendan inexplicably turns cold, Emma can't stop staring. Ever since she laid eyes on him, strange things have been happening. Streetlamps go out wherever she walks, and Emma's been having the oddest dreams: visions of herself in past lives—visions that warn her to stay away from Brendan. Or else.

I am going to be reading and reviewing this one in two/three weeks. I have to say, I am so flippin' happy about this one! When I received it, I am pretty sure I squeeedddd! The hubs was not excited about the squee, but almost as excited that I was happy. It might be a little fishy that he lets me read as much as I do. He doesn't have to pretend to listen to me then :P Bahaha.

What amazing, fantastical books did you receive this week??

I see Spellbound everywhere now days in the blog-o-sphere. And I say that it sounds pretty freakin awesome!
If it were me? The One and an awful death? Almost positive that I would choose love. I know, masochist.
I have not read many books with magic in them, and I guess it is about darn time! And I like rock and roll white knights.

What fantastic read are you eagerly anticipating??
